ANIMAFEST PRO | Videogame Workshop

VIDEO GAME WORKSHOP

Date and time: June 4 - 7, 9:00h-17:00h
Venue: Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), Unska 3, Zagreb

Continuing the acknowledgment of the video games as an equitable medium in aesthetic and creative work intersecting art and digital technology, which was introduced at the last year's festival, Animafest Zagreb 2014 is once again in collaboration with Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FEEC) and Academy of Fine Arts (AFA) organizing the Video Games Workshop. The aim is to encourage the creativity and competitiveness among the young artists and IT professionals by combining the communities of programmers, animators and illustrators in this section of Animafest Pro programme. The workshop offers an introduction to the transmedia connection between animation and computing. Workshop participants will work in smaller teams of designers and developers to create their own video games, developed in Unity game engine, Illustrator, GIMP, Blender, and presented on the last day of the festival.

Workshop facilitators are research associate Aleksandra Čereković (FEEC) and art associate Darko Masnec (AFA). This year Lovro Nola, from the game design center Machina, will join the workshop facilitators, and will hold an introductory lecture.

The workshop takes place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, 4 - 7 June 2014. The planned workshop duration is 8 hours per day, but the students will have the lab at their disposal from 9am to 9pm. They can also use the computer equipment, but each student is also free to bring their own laptops.

Participation is free of charge and the number of participants is limited. Everyone with software development experience (C++, C#, Javascript, Java, and/or Unity 3D tools) and/or design and animation (Maya, Blender, GIMP, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape) are welcome to apply. Priority in the selection process will be given to senior students of FEEC and Department of Animation and New Media (AFA).
