Alexis discovered animation at the Annecy Film Festival. He was in a cinema course in a university but nobody told him the strength and the power of this cinema made frame by frame. So he was destined to become a Ronin of animation, going from place to place to preach the glory of animation.
Well ok that’s not really the story… VHS salesman, VHS distributor, DVD distributor and even Asian products salesman etc. and one day somebody asked him to write in a magazine Storyboard (it was a foolish thing but…). Then more magazines and TV (but that’s definitely not a good medium when you want to have time to say things) came along. So in 2004 he created a website, www.zewebanim.com, dedicated only to animation, where he put news and films but also interviews of animation figures (Norstein, Takahata, Švankmajer, Ushev etc.), then he took over “Bulles de rêves”, a monthly radio show only about animation.
Since 2007 he has been teaching history of cinema (both animation and live action) and image analysis with different animation schools, and began lecturing on a lot of subjects (but of course always on animation) in France but also in Japan, Egypt, Moldova etc. And in 2009 began a fruitful collaboration with FICAM in Meknès, Morocco. But his pleasure is really to talk as much as he can about animation so he is doing video interviews for the Institut Français, collaborates with Forum des images, and even puts on the internet anniversary videos for animation directors. He is also a member of the animation committee of the French award César.
