Nina Gantz - The Craft of Stop-Motion: Making Independent Animated Films

In this masterclass, Nina Gantz talks through what it’s like to make independent animated films. She’ll share her path into animation, briefly touching on her earlier short Edmond (BAFTA winner, 2016) and her commercial work with Blinkink. The session focuses on the craft behind stop-motion, with plenty of behind-the-scenes material from her projects. It will centre mainly on her latest short Wander to Wonder (BAFTA winner, 2025; Academy Award nominee, 2025). She will break down how ideas develop into finished films, how you build a believable world of your own, and what goes wrong along the way: the mistakes, limitations, problem-solving, and occasional happy accidents that shape the process. It’s a practical and honest look at the realities of making independent animated films. Nina will also share a preview of a feature film project she is currently developing. An open and informal session with space for questions and discussion.
