Lillian F. Schwartz

Lillian F. Schwartz (1927-2024) was an American artist who worked at the intersection of early digital and multimedia art, computer animation, and experimental cinema. In 1968, her kinetic sculpture “Proxima Centauri” (created in partnership with E.A.T. and Per Biorn) was selected to appear in The Museum of Modern Art’s “The Machine at the End of the Mechanical Age” exhibit. From 1969-2002, Schwartz was a "resident visitor" at Bell Labs, where she created a series of celebrated and award-winning short films, including Pixillation (1970), Olympiad (1971), UFOs (1972), and many others.
