Synopsis
The film contains three Jan Werich’s fairy tales, each directed by one artist. The first story sets out to the Šumava mountains in Southern Bohemia to find out whether Ogres ever lived there. The middle tale The Hat and the Little Jay Feather concerns a king who sends his three sons to bring back a hat he left at a tavern when he was young. The third and longest fairy tale Reason and Luck is about the two virtues of the title try to prove their importance by changing the life of a pig herder named Louis.
Kristina Dufková (1978) is a director, animator and artist, a graduate of FAMU. Between 1993 and 1997 she studied at the Jan Neruda Gymnasium in Prague, continuing her studies at the Higher Vocational School of Film in Písek, where she majored in animation. From 2000-2010 she studied animation at FAMU. Living Large is her debut feature. Dufková's film work stands out for its excellent animation and visual stylisation. In her artistic work she combines the world of children and the world of adults.
Vlasta Pospíšilová (1935) has during studying specialized on puppet-leading and stage designing. In 1956, she enrolled as an animator in the studio of puppet film in Prague, where Jiři Trnka was preparing a feature animated film A Midsummer Night's Dream. With his artistic guidance, she acquired professional skills that she used in all her following films. In the late 1970s she started to direct puppet animation films. In the 1990s she created 30 episodes for the puppet animated serial Fireflies.
David Súkup (1974) studied at Film School Zlin at the Animation Department. He has worked as an animator assistant at Jiři Trnka Studio. In 2006 he made his graduation film The Tree within MA studies at FAMU.
