Panel When Student Films Go Pro

In recent years we have witnessed a number of student films being made in professional conditions, supported by production companies and funded by national film funds, sometimes even as international co-productions. Some of them achieve remarkable success - Ice Merchants or Electra, for example. Simultaneously taking advantage within educational institutions - which provide mentorship from professors and access to infrastructure - and the support of production companies - which offer professional guidance and funding - certain questions arise: do they have an advantage over their peers who do not have access to the same resources? What motivates producers and film funds to support such projects? How did the schools come to allow this? Where do these films belong in the festivals - in student or professional competition? We'll discuss these questions with Maur film's producer Martin Vandas, professor and producer Tina Smrekar, and student Jelena Milunović. Moderated by Daniel Šuljić, Animafest's artistic director and animation film author.
