Synopsis

On a city street corner, two garbage containers are surrounded by a heap of dumped garbage. An old mattress begins to speak sadly: ‘They say I’m dirty…’ Other pieces of garbage join in, sharing the reasons why they were discarded. Then, a newspaper picked up by the wind seems to start dancing in the spotlight of a streetlamp. Inspired, the discarded items begin to see themselves positively. Their enthusiasm evolves into a spectacle of song and dance.

Wiep Teeuwisse

Wiep Teeuwisse (1993) is a director and animator based in Rotterdam. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Animation from HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht) in 2015 and completed a Master’s degree in Directing Animation in 2021 at the National Film and Television School in London. Her graduation film Depart at 22 won the Cristal for Best Graduation Film at the Annecy International Animation Festival. Her debut film Intermission Expedition featured seafoam and volcanoes, and received global recognition. In addition to directing autonomous work, she has worked as an animator on various short films. Wiep works with drawn-on-paper animation, stop motion, and other analogue techniques.
