Synopsis
Stampfer Dreams is a homage to the scientist Simon von Stampfer, who presented his invention of the Stroboscopic Discs in Vienna in 1833. These discs show all kinds of animated loops from abstract to figurative and from experimental to documentary, and in this way foreshadow the variety of genres in animated film. All characters and animated sequences are taken from / based on these ‘optical magic discs’.
Thomas Renoldner (1960, Linz) studied psychology and educational theory from 1979-83, and 1989-94 painting and animation film at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna. Since his early youth, he has worked as a self-taught filmmaker, as well as in the areas of music, painting, installation and performance. He has made numerous experimental, animated and documentary films and some commercials. Also works as a producer, teacher, film historian, festival organiser and curator for animated films.
