Réka Bucsi Makes Movies

3/10 SAT 12:30h &TD

My talk is an overview on how I started making animated films since I graduated from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest in 2013. I talk about each movie individually, including some process and production experiences. I am an independent animation filmmaker, trying to get my films to cinemas. I work with unconventional narrative, which presents its own set of challenges when it comes to a pitch, a distribution plan or dealing with an audience in general. I have been balancing commissioned and personal work for the past seven years and will give you a brief insight into my experiences.

Réka Bucsi received her BFA and MFA from MOME Budapest. Her graduation film Symphony no. 42 got shortlisted for the Oscars in 2014. Her films were screened in competition on various festivals including Berlinale, SXSW and Sundance. Réka’s debut film LOVE was nominated for Best Short Film at the European Film Awards. Her film Solar Walk won the Audi Short Film Award at the Berlinale 2018 and is now part of The Criterion Collection. She was a speaker at Pictoplasma, SVA Computer Arts NYC, Pratt Institute NYC, FMX Germany and a guest teacher at CalArts. Her clients include Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and FX Networks.
