Synopsis

In 2013, we collected a number of black-and-white photos from Chinese flea markets and imagined that all of them belonged to one fictional Chinese person. Through rendering, collage, and a cyclical process of hand-colouring, scanning, and printing, we created connections among the photos.

Lei Lei

Lei Lei was born in 1985 in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, and received his master's degree in animation from Tsinghua University in 2009. He has made award-winning animation films, installations and live music presented around the festival circuit, in museums and galleries. Since 2017 he has worked at CalArts, where he is a full-time faculty member at the department of Experimental Animation.
