Tomorrow, on Tuesday, 31 May 2011 at 7:30pm, the 21st edition of the World Festival of Animated Film ANIMFEST ZAGREB will officially open with the premiere screening of Sylvain Chomet’s (Triplets of Belleville) THE ILLUSIONIST.

The audience will be addressed by Vjera Matković and Dana Budisavljević – ANIMAFEST producers; the festival’s new art director – Daniel Šuljić; and Hrvoje Hribar, head of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. This year’s festival jury deciding on the finest entries, consisting of the acclaimed filmmakers PAUL DRIESSEN (animator and winner of Animafest’s 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award), DUNJA JANKOVIĆ (comic book author and illustrator) and DAVID SILVERMAN (The Simpsons’ director), will also greet the audience and invite them to enjoy in the best titles of the recent feature animated productions.

Be reminded, the feature edition of the World Festival of Animated Film ANIMAFEST ZAGREB is held from 31 May to 5 June in EUROPA and TUŠKANAC cinemas. Seven programmes will screen 69 films, 22 feature and 47 short films. In addition to the GRAND COMPETITION entries, this year’s novelty is the programme CINEMA FOR THE EAR that will screen cult animated musical films: THE YELLOW SUBMARINE, PINK FLOYD: THE WALL and HEAVY METAL. The retrospective programme MASTERS OF ANIMATION is dedicated to the jury member Paul Driessen, while CARTOON D’OR represents the best exponents of the short European animated production.

In addition to films d’auteur for more demanding audiences, in association with ANIMATEKA, the animation festival from Ljubljana and sponsored by Raiffeisen’s Bubašpara children’s savings programme, we prepared a rich film programme for the youngest Animafest fans.

After the opening and the film programme, the festival team will be entertained by the up-and-coming Croatian band The Genuines.

We invite you to the full-blooded animation feast taking place in the next six days in two favourite cinemas – EUROPA (Varšavska 3) and TUŠKANAC (Tuškanac 1).

All information about the programme and schedule are available.
