Pedro Rivero: The Tools of Screenwriting and Cinematic Storytelling for Animation

The keys to start writing a script beyond the rules and examples

Is a good characterization enough? And a good dramatic progression? Conflict is everything? And what about the big show: action, FX? Are dramatic irony and deceits and payoff always desirable? Do we want the viewer to participate or only to follow the action? When we are preparing a cocktail, we start by learning what each ingredient contributes and we immediately recognize how we combined them. Maybe the paradigm (3 acts, 2 plot points...) can explain this in ten minutes, but we must examine the dramatic terminology, the examples, the clamorous failures and those that were different to discover what knowledge they provide us and what prevents us from finding what we want to offer to our customers. In this workshop, Pedro Rivero will analyse the scripts presented by the students, share the definition of the most common tools in writing scripts and putting them into practice. The resulting combination will cause a long hangover.
