Shoko Hara will show her process behind the making of her debut film Just a Guy. She will talk about this personal film’s inception, why she chose animation for a documentary, and what kind of challenges she had to overcome regarding form and content: how can animation supplement a story’s emotional core while staying true to the facts? How do you make informed yet emotionally meaningful decisions as a documentary filmmaker working in animation? Making-of material such as photos, videos from the set and work-in-progress animation will illustrate the visual research and design process.
