WORLD PANORAMA and CINEMA FOR THE EAR are ONLINE!
05/12/2011

The feature edition of the festival ANIMAFEST ZAGREB 2011 will screen six films in the WORLD PANORAMA, Animafest’s regular programme, plus a novelty – the musical programme CINEMA FOR THE EAR including three film titles.

Six films will be screened within the WORLD PANORAMA – the new feature film by the Czech animation master JAN ŠVANKMAJER SURVIVING LIFE (THEORY AND PRACTICE); a phantasmagorical example of experimental Columbian animation THE MYSTERIOUS PRESAGES OF LEON PROZAK by CARLOS SANTA; Japanese visual meditation concerning food chain brutality MIDORI-KO by KEITA KUROSAKA; GRAVITY WAS EVERYWHERE BACK THEN by BRENT GREEN, a beautiful combination of photo animation, stop motion and live action, musically accompanied by a team of outstanding musicians; the first Czech feature animated film with an enormous budget of 1.2 million euro – FIMFÁRUM – THE THIRD TIME LUCKY by a group of authors, an adaptation of three fairy tales by Jan Werich; and the only Croatian entry, RAINBOW by JOŠKO MARUŠIĆ, a film about the generational gap.

The festival programme CINEMA FOR THE EAR will screen three older films of utmost importance for animation and pop culture, YELLOW SUBMARINE (1968) by GEORGE DUNNING, a film of psychedelic and exceptional animation and hypnotic, surreal images accompanying the music of the uberpopular Liverpool four THE BEATLES; PINK FLOYD – THE WALL (1982) by ALAN PARKER speaking of estrangement and human isolation, an issue more burning than ever. This 15-minute animated sequence is a true pop culture classic, created by the political illustrator GERALD SCARFE. The final programme entry is the sci-fi film HEAVY METAL by GERALD POTTERTON, featuring scenes of violence, nudity and sex with the sounds of Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth, Cheap Trick, DEVO and Grand Funk.
